A professional musician since the tender age of 17, Jay is known for his saxophone and flute work with many artists in the rock, jazz, and blues fields including Gregg Allman and Friends,
Allman Brothers Band (rock icons), Levon Helm (from The Band), James Hunter (U.K.soul/blues), Jacky Terrasson (jazz pianist), and Andrew Hill (jazz legend).
Mr. Collins is also a singer and song-writer whose varied experiences in American music have forged him into a formidable band-leader and performer of his own music. He calls his band the 'Kings County Band' (Kings County is also known as Brooklyn, NY).
Jay Collins and the Kings County Band is a rolling, jamming, blues-drenched, jazz-rock outfit with blue-collar vocals and original songs that satisfy. The players are all NYC certified, and Jay Collins' deep-voiced bark on lead vocals is matched by his funky saxophone style.
They are one of those rare groups that combine all the facets of American music into one sound, and are comfortable on a rock, blues, jazz, folk, or jam-band festival stage.
